• Impressive weekend for Colton Herta and the #88 GESS Capstone Honda car at Texas Motor Speedway

Dallas, Texas (June 10, 2019) The #88 GESS Capstone Honda team was strong throughout the entire DXC Technology 600 weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. Rookie pilot Colton Herta qualified the car in tenth position, then quickly worked his way toward the front of the field. By lap 85, the 19-year-old was consistently running in the top five.

The race ended prematurely for the Valencia, California, native after an incident on lap 229 of the 248-lap race. The rookie was running in third position at the time.

“Today was rough,” said Colton Herta. “But, we have so many positives from the day, too. The #88 GESS Capstone Honda was going to win that race. We had the car to win. We were so fast. We could run the high line, and we could do everything that everyone else couldn’t. Unfortunately, we got taken out of the race, and there was nothing we could do about it. The most important thing is that the car was fast, and all the crew guys were so great on the pit stops. I’m upset, but we have another opportunity in just a couple of weeks.”

“I couldn’t be prouder of Colton,” said team president, Brian Barnhart. “This was the kid’s first run on the big oval in Texas. He had never really had an opportunity to race on an oval in an Indy car because of our bad luck at the Indianapolis 500. He was so impressive. He was calm, cool and collected throughout the entire race. The engineers and crew did a great job, so the kid had a rocket ship and was going for the win on that last restart. It’s really disappointing the way it turned out. You expect more out of a situation like that than what he got. I just want can’t say enough about what Colton and the guys did.”

The 2019 NTT IndyCar Series season takes a weekend break before the Rev Group Grand Prix at Road America. Practice one begins Friday, June 21st at 12:05 p.m. ET. Live race coverage will be on NBC Sports on Sunday, June 23rd at 12:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
