• The #88 Capstone Turbine Honda excited for the Firestone Grand Prix of Laguna Seca

After more than a decade, the NTT IndyCar Series will return to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca to close the 2019 season with the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey. 19-year-old Colton Herta will pilot the #88 Capstone Turbine Honda around the 2.258-mile permanent road course in Monterey, California, beginning Thursday, September 17th with an official NTT IndyCar Series open test.
“We’re very happy that there is an open test with about six hours of track activity prior to official practice for the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey,” said team president Brian Barnhart. “We hope that this will allow us to get on pace rather quickly. WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is the type of track that suits Colton’s season-long driving style. He has some history there in other racing series, so he knows the track, and hopefully he can adapt quickly in an Indy car. We’re looking forward to another solid qualifying and race effort to wrap up 2019.”
Currently 13th in the NTT IndyCar Series standings with 316 points, Herta has one win, two pole starting positions and five top-ten finishes so far in the 2019 season. Fewer than 50 points separate the Valencia, California, rookie from the leading rookie for Rookie of the Year honors.
“I’m feeling proud of our efforts this season as the #88 Capstone Turbine Honda team enters the NTT IndyCar Series finale at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca,” said Colton Herta. “The Herta name has quite a reputation there, so I look to build on that name with another strong performance and hopefully another Herta in victory lane!”
Practice for the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey begins Friday, September 20, at 1:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on NBC Sports Gold. Saturday’s qualifying will be live on NBC Sports at 4:30 p.m. ET. Live race-day coverage on Sunday will begin at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
